So Expensive!

It is no secret how insanely expensive high fashion clothing is. People can easily be wearing thousands of dollars in one outfit. Thousands of dollars on a dress is a "little" excessive however the good thing is, is the adult probably wont grow out of it and can get some good wear out of their expensive outfit.
The new big enterprise is children's clothing, high fashion children clothing. In an article in New York Time is it discussed how designers are entering into designing clothing for children. Jackets for over a thousand and sweaters for over $500 are standard prices. The difference in this compared to adult clothing is kids grow right out of their clothes!!! How it is ethical in any way to buy and kid, who could care less what they are wearing a thousand dollar shirt is beyond me. There is a sense of wisdom. Being blessed with a lot of money hold the reasoning for responsibility, and wisdom.
Living in the world we live in should make individuals think twice before dropping $1500 on a jacket when people around the world just need a toothbrush. Going to Cambodia this last Christmas I was able to see what other people around the world are going through, which has helped keep myself in check. Seeing the article in the New York Times hit home for me and raised questioning.

Society and Sexuality

I am doing my final paper over designer Tom Ford, along with the fashion industry as a whole objectifying woman and creating explicit sexual images. My main question is why is everything so sexual? Why is it true that sex sells? It all comes down to the fact that we are sexual beings.
Throughout history we see art, writings, sculptures and pictures of very sexual images by famous artist in history. Yes we are mammals and reproduce just like any other being, however we have a big difference and that is our thought process. Humans fantasist, we imagine things and are drawn to things that entice our senses.
By looking at the fashion world advertising sexual images to sell things does make sense. Seeing such images engages individuals. It grabs our attention and most people like what they see and as a reaction remember, and by the products.

Porn Codes...

The fashion industry set the scene for what is in style. They are the creators behind what is "beautiful" or "in style".  The size zero model is something we are all familiar with. It is a size that causes extreme poor health and sometimes death. Besides the small size, the other big aspect of the fashion world is sexuality. "Sex Sells" is a statement known by all. It is nearly impossible to avoid sexual images.
Tom Ford and Brian Atwood are two designers in particular who are openly known for their intense sexual images.
How much is too much? To what point do the images go beyond what people may call art or high fashion. In a lot of sexual fashion pictorials the women are discretely objectified. There is no shame with these designers who portray women this way. It is pure acceptance and there seems to be no questioning or wrong in their minds as to what their ads are saying.
The codes of porn are objectification, submission, violence and domination. Porn to many seem opposite of what many fashion ads are implying... but in all reality are they really that different?

Palaver Tree System

When looking at the Palaver Tree System ethics and a case in particular the first thing that came to mind that stands as a good example is a case I studied last semester. The case was over the fashion industry in regards to models and eating disorders. The Palaver Tree ethical chose that would best fit the case over fashion is no urgency. I found that the models in the fashion industry not only struggled with eating disorders because of an "expected look," but also for survival. The huge problem with the poor health of fashion models has no sense of urgency when it comes to change because a "skinny" model is the "ideal" look that has been pounded into designers and consumers brains as beauty. It was interesting to discover that the fashion industry is the second largest industry in the world. Because of its incredibly stance and power, change is hard to come by. A skinny model is what every designer looks for to walk in their shows. Therefore a sense of urgency to get healthier models is not a big factor of importance.

Moneymaking TV

According to the Nielsen Co., Americans on average watch television more than 4 hours a day! That fact alone shows why television shows, and movies make so much money. Television shows alone gain a ton of revenue thanks to their viewers. Fox news gathered in the revenue numbers of the top television shows airing today. American Idol, the top viewed show, made $6.64 million in ad revenue every half hour in 2011. That is a huge number considering it was only in ad revenue! One would think that American Idol being on its eleventh season would at least be lower on the viewing rates, but instead American Idol is still on top and making BANK!

Why Eating Meat Is Not Bad…

Eating meat has developed bad connotations, thanks to the growing interest in being a vegan or vegetarian. Many have seen the disturbing videos of animals being treated cruelly, being fed indecent food and being pushed around by a fork life, but what about the healthy farm raised animals? Many have forgotten why the roll of the food chain and humans eating animals is a crucial part of the economic system. I do not believe animals should be treated cruelly and be fed things like cornmeal which is a substance that cannot be digested properly in cows. Animals should be raised properly, fed proper plant sources like they are meant to eat and then eaten by humans. Think if humans and livestock all only ate vegetation. By eating meat there is a sense of equilibrium within our eco system. Also, over population of animals can cause many different issues such as filthy and disease. After an animal has grown up and developed it is wise to continue their contribution. For example say an owned goat does not produce valuable resources such as milk anymore, it would be wise for the person raising that goal to then continue their resourcefulness and use it to nourish themselves instead if just letting it die. Global warming has also became a big topic when it comes to the opposition of eating meat saying that people eating a lot of meat is causing problems towards global warming. Large scale farming areas however let off a lot of green house gases and causes a big problem to the environment as well. The over all observation is the importance of ethical equilibrium. The food chain process is an important, healthy way of life and supports crucial sustainability within the environment we live in.

Siri

Siri... the female voice of the iPhone... She is able to answer questions profoundly well and is used by just the press of a button. The well-known name has a story and meaning that defines the voice of the iPhone4.

The co-founder and owner of siri.com domain, Dag Kittlaus came up with the name Siri through a Norwegian translation meaning "beautiful woman who leads you to victory." Kittlaus loved the name Siri so much that he was planning on naming his first born Siri. His first born ended up being and boy, so he therefore could not use the feminine name, instead he decided to name his new, innovative product Siri. Siri ended up being bought by Apple and is now a house hold name, and known as a voice of help for all iPhone4 users around the world.

Courthouse Crisis

Ever been to a Courthouse? That building in every major city that looks big and historic. They seem safe and secure with security and police officers constantly patrolling. I have been to the one in Tulsa, there was security everywhere and metal detectors right when you walk in the door. All of that may provide a sense of security and indeed does, however two current events have made the term "Courthouse" a hot topic.

A week ago there was a shooting at the Downtown Tulsa Courthouse. Yesterday, there was a shooting at the Beaumont Courthouse. For two very important structures in both cities, it is alarming to think how a shooting was even able to occur. Those buildings in particular are among some of the "most secured" in those cities, and it is scary to think of what is still able to take place under such circumstances.

Target Seeing Your Future

It is now recognized that Target has been tracking peoples every move while shopping.... With target camera's through research and strategic analyzing, tracking what one may be shopping for can give answers to what is to occur in the future.

One of targets examples is the topic of pregnancy. By watching certain foods women may be buying, or watching a woman buy a pregnancy test cameras helps targets cameras put the puzzle together. Coupons for half priced diapers and congratulations your pregnant have been sent out to women who may not even realize they are pregnant yet, but target does.

Another School Shooting

Like horror situations in the past another school shooting occurred today at 7:30am in Ohio when a young male student opened fire killing one student and wounding four. A school shooting is every schools worst nightmare and the fact that they keep happening is a nightmare in itself.

What makes a student reach the brink of wanting to bring a gun to school and shoot anyone is beyond me. Some say it is from bullying, and some say it may be from depression or anger. The other question is how can it be prevented? What precautions can be made to prevent a student from bring a gun into school?

Baseball Warning for Fans

The Texas Rangers incident in July 2011 not only raised awareness to the world of baseball, but it brought up the importance of preventing accidents. After the death of Shannon Stone occurred from a fall over the stands, the question regarding the required height of the railing came about. Baseball stadiums around the country have the required height of railing, however what is a course of action that can be taken to prevent accidents?

Regardless of word going around raising awareness to fan, something needs to be done to remind fans to be safe around the railings. One idea could be playing a short clip to remind fans the importance of being safe around the railing. Also, if accidents continue to happen then raising the required height of the railing would not be a bad idea as well. Having a death at a stadium from a fall is awful and raising awareness and protecting fans should be taken seriously and actions put forth immediately.

To Vogue? Who Knew?

Vogue is that fashion magazine that comes out every month showing the world what is "in" and what is "out". Actresses and models graze the covers alluring individuals all around the world to buy the glossy, stylist magazine that is bound to entice your senses through every picture.

I was one of the allured viewers who caught sight of the February Vogue issue with Taylor Swift on the cover. As I glanced through each page a small picture of Madonna on the bottom corner with text saying, "LEGENDS OF THE BALLS" caught my eye. After reading it I learn something I never knew, so here is your fact for the day that most probably do not know about.....

What is "Vogue" exactly? At least what is it today? In the early 80's the noun Vogue turned into "to Vogue." It was an action done by fashionable individuals in Harlem and the Bronx. After going to incredible fashion shows people would gather and have a ball, very late at night, where they would channel and creatively depict the latest fashion styles on the runway.... interestingly enough these balls were held by impoverished gay kids... Who knew?

Love Thy Neighbor

World peace is not a promising goal. Everywhere around the world acts of hate and violence are performed on a daily basis. Living by a golden rule of treating others as you would like to be treated, is wishful thinking when reading the news. The ethical ideal of "Love Thy Neighbor" is an ideal hope, especially when compared to the recent occurrence in Egypt.

On February 1, 2012 many soccer fans in Egypt joined together to enjoy a game. Individuals from citizens, to public law makers were trapped in an act of unexpected violence. As soccer fans desperately tried to flee from people of the opposing team from being attacked, a tiny exit was shut by police from allowing individuals to exit. Because of the "death trapped" door many people were crushed, stabbed and killed. What started out to be a moment of enjoyment at a soccer game turned into the death of 74 people. "Love Thy Neighbor" was an ethical idea that was ignored and is daily.

Hamlet's Blackberry Beginning

Technology has become a part of us as humans. As we rely on it on a constant daily basis we start to gain a sense of connectedness to it... a way of us as individuals being "connected" to the world. Reading Hamlet's Blackberry has made me step back and realize how technology effects my life. Like the book said, our technology sources like cell phones and lap tops has made our hectic lives seem easier to handle with our gadgets, however technology has become so much more.

When thinking about a dramatic stance technology is taking on our youth I think of personal proof. A friend of mine learned how to read from playing video games, and this was a child who grew up in a prestigious home and technology was a big part of his learning process. My little nephew learned colors, animals, and foods by a cell phone app my mother let him play with all the time when she watched him. It makes me wonder how different things will be by the time I have children.

A Break From the Internet "The Joy of Quiet"

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/01/opinion/sunday/the-joy-of-quiet.html?pagewanted=2&_r=1
I have never been the type to wake up every morning and rush to check my facebook, open up my twitter account, or type up a blog posting, but I still have to check them eventually. The article "The Joy of Quiet" relates to me personally with an understanding of craving stillness, quietness, getting away from the city and internet. The internet provided and excellent source of information, but sucks away privacy and the missing principle of getting to know someone in person.

The stress of constantly keeping up with text, facebook messages, tweets, emails, phone calls, voice-mail and blogging makes my brain feel over stimulated at times. As the author talked about traveling and how necessary it is to leave and get away from things, it reminded me of my trip to Cambodia. The fact that I had no internet service, or phone service was quite nice and it allowed me to enjoy the nature and culture of a different world apart from my own.
